Early America Unit Study

In this unit study, the children and I have been learning about early America. The Lord had me start right at the beginning (well right after creation) :)

The kids wanted to know about Pangea (when all the continents were one BIG continent). Later, I was able to blend in some geography review with continents, oceans, etc… We even played some US Bingo, and practiced our state/capitals.

We got a lot of books from the library about the early life of the colonists, and how they lived, and interacted with the native Americans. I even rented a few fun books on Thanksgiving to mix it up for our younger one, Julia.

I’m adding lots of Thanksgiving crafts, coloring pages, and crossword puzzles to keep it fun.

I’ve included some Thanksgiving coloring and activity pages for you on the website if you’re interested.

We’re learning a lot, and are excited to head over to the Colonial Quarter Museum in St. Augustine when we’re finished. My goal is to wrap things up right before Thanksgiving.

We’re spending about 1-2 hours a day, and about 4-5 days a week on the unit studies. This seems to be about right, allowing us time to still work on other subjects and music practice, etc…
