Being led by the Spirit

As a believer in Jesus Christ, I do my best to model how Jesus walked on earth. The apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 5:1 that we should imitate God as dearly loved children. When Jesus was on earth, he went around doing good, and healing everyone who was sick and oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38).

As an imitator of God, I too want to love others, and help them like Jesus did. So many times though, it seems this world is fallen, and even though I am well-meaning, many times the person remains sick even after I prayed for healing, or the person doesn’t come back from the dead, even though I commanded them to in Jesus’ name.

As I was pondering the command Jesus gave us as believers to heal the sick, raise the dead, and so on (Matthew 10:8), the Holy Spirit seemed to drop revelation into my heart about why it doesn’t always happen.

He gave me this verse, and I’ll leave this with you to pray on:

“For all who are allowing themselves to be led by the Spirit of God are sons of God." Romans 8:14

This means that even if we want to do something for someone else, if Holy Spirit isn’t leading us to do the kind, good thing, then don’t do it. If He is, then do it. I believe this is how Jesus walked on earth. He did many good things, and it seemed his batting average was 100%, but I believe it appeared this way because Jesus was being led by the Spirit to do all these good things. He did nothing unless the Father - through the Spirit - told Him to do it (John 5:19).

So the question is, am I being led to heal the sick right now, or is this just my own desire to be helpful or kind. Is Holy Spirit asking me to raise this dead person to life, or do I just miss them and want them back?

I believe we (myself included) can starting batting 100% with loving and reaching out to others if we allow ourselves to be led by the Spirit - and only do and say what He wants us to.

God bless you all. Have a great week!
